      Hi charliemac21. “CCACE” stands for Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology, which is where I work in Edinburgh. “Cognition” means that we study how people think. “Cognitive Ageing” is how thinking ability changes with time. “Epidemiology” means that we look for factors that effect how people think, and how their cognitive abilities change over time. I’m looking at the effects that different genes have on how people think as they get older, but there’s a whole bunch of us looking at different factors, including the effects of hormones and stress, as well as taking pictures of people’s brains so we can see exactly what’s going on inside.

      Even though it’s already an abbreviation, “CCACE” can still be a bit long to say, so most it’s pronounced like “Case” instead. Although I always thought it should have been “Cake”.
