I was told, a long time ago, that a vet had to be cleverer than a doctor as animals couldn’t talk! I didn’t think I was clever enough to be a vet, so I ‘down-graded’ my ambition, and decided to be a kennel maid instead. I quickly realised that this wouldn’t lead anywhere and studied economics and law instead…

I decided to do law at university as I didn’t think my maths was good enough to be an economist!

Looking back, I made a lot of decisions based on what I thought I couldn’t do! When I was older, and a lot more confident about my abilities, I went back to uni to study nutrition (as I was really interested in food and health) and then jumped at the opportunity to do a PhD…and I’m very happy that I did!!
