I love neuroscience, this is the study of the brain and nerves. It is still amazing to me even after 10 years! there is so much we don’t know about the brain and it is just about the most complex thing in the universe! The things that the brain can do are incredible.
I think if i didn’t do neuroscience i would do zoology because i would love to study animals and find new species 🙂

Hi Sophie. I’ve been interested in genetics since I was a teenager. I still find it fascinating. DNA is the thread that binds all people, all life together. It’s a shared history that makes us all the same, but carries the differences that make us unique – as a species, and as individuals.
I’ve become more interested in the last few years in the application of genetics in other fields. Most things in human biology have some relation to genetics. I’m currently looking at how genes affect the brain, the role they might have in intelligence differences and how our thinking ability changes as we get older.

My favourite science at school was always biology, and in biology my favourite area is genetics! I love finding out what makes us into the people we are, and how all of the different types of cells are made to do such specific jobs! I particularly like studying genetic diseases – which is what my PhD is based on! It’s really interested to see how tiny changes to our DNA can cause illnesses, and its good to know that my research could be a step towards finding cures for some of these diseases too 🙂
