The usual things really. I go out, like to go swimming. I love baking so make cakes and treats all the time 🙂 I also love playing guitar hero and taking my dogs out. 🙂

During the week I spend time with my daughter, helping her with her homework and making sure she’s all set for the next day of school.

I listen to music all the time, I love to prepare dinner with the music on and a glass of wine! I watch Channel 4 News, religiously, I like to be well-informed! I love body/science programmes on tv (I never watch soaps – dull!)

At the weekend…well, it often depends on the weather! If it’s a lovely day, I may tackle the garden, wash everything in sight or mooch about town, go to the pub…! If it’s miserable/rainy/cold, we may just have a pyjama day and hang around the house, a bit of housework, a DVD…

I like to go out with my mates for a few drinks after work. Most of the time I just go home and relax. I try not to do anything that will make me think about work so I do things like going to the cinema or to the beach. I also go paintballing.. 🙂

I like to do sport a lot outside of work 🙂 I do triathlons and long-distance running, so I do some sort of training for this almost every day! I like to relax with music at home, and I really like to cook – I find baking really therapeutic! So most days, I go to training straight from work, then go home and cook some nice food while streaming music through spotify 🙂 I often like to watch something while I’m eating – my favourite tv shows are HIMYM, Big Bang Theory, Dexter, Game of Thrones and Fringe. Then I either play on the xbox or read before I go to bed.

On the weekends I train early in the morning, then (if I’m not working!) like to go to the beach, go to the cinema, or catch up with friends over drinks and some nice food 🙂

Hi there. I see you too!

Outside of work, I try to put aside time for reading non-work stuff, just for fun. I also really love music, listenting at home is fine, but I think it’s much better hearing bands play live.

And I love just wandering around Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful city, and I never get bored with it. It’s famous or the big Hogmanay street party at the end of the year, and the festival in the summer, but there’s always stuff happening. Take this weekend as an example: the Edinburgh Film festival has just started, and there’s a lot of interesting films on, including a couple about neuroscience. There’s also the Scottish beer festival in town, that I hope to pop in at some point. A friend of mine is leaving the lab and going back to Italy, so we’re going out for a few drinks on Friday to wish him well. Another friend of mine is running in a race around the Seven Hills of Edinburgh on Sunday, so I’ll probably go and cheer her on from one of the summits. And might try to get to the pub quiz on Sunday night if I can.

That said, I do like escaping the city from time to time. You can get on a bus or train and be in some of most wonderful scenery in the UK in a couple of hours. I love the Highlands, and I try to spend at least one weekend a month walking there. It’s nice to just get out of the city sometimes, and forget about work for a couple of days. Just heard that a friend of mine is going to be climbing his last Munro (Scottish mountains over 3,000m) in a few weeks, so that’s something to look forward to.
