  It depends on the cause of the disease. Most of them you will have from birth and start showing sugns of the disease from a very young age. So of the disease will only show themselves as you get older and will get progressivley worse.
  
  But it can be said that the majority and the worse types of mitochondrial disease have symptoms from birth.
