• Question: Is the universe infinitely big, is it just a 3d world over a 4d shape(making it apparently endless) or does it have an edge of sorts?

Hi Robert. I’m just a geneticist, so don’t really have much of a clue about this.

Any answer I give would be pure speculation, based on what little cosmology I know, and watching Brian Cox on the telly. But I’ll see if I can find some physicists to help out.

I’m honestly not sure how big the universe is, but apparently its expanding so it can’t be infintely big or it wouldn’t be able to get any bigger. This does confuse me a bit though – what is it that the universe is expanding outwards into?

There are theories about the existance of other universes too – if ours were infintely big then I guess there wouldn’t be anywhere for other universes to go? What do you think?

Awesome question. unfortunately i don’t have a clue.

I like to think that the universe has an edge other wise my little head struggles to imagine it expanding and like Georgia says i would like to know what it expands out into. I think its size is limited though and it will only be able to expand for a certain time to a certain limit. But like i said i am not sure….if only Brian Cox or Patrick Moore where here to answer you! 😀
