• Question: if there was 2 elastic bands (one cut in half and the other in a loop and they are the same lengh) and you hang a 2 newton wiegt from them which one would strech the most???

      I have absolutely no idea! This sounds like a good question for a physicist – a scientist who studies or practices physics… Physics was my worse science subject at school! Biology was my favourite – all about the body, (and chemistry too). When I got to uni, biochemistry was my fav subject – a mixture of the two; biological and chemical processes in the body – fascinating!!

      Im a geneticist, and dont know physics well enough.

      But Im in a pub with some physics people. I asked them. Theyre still discussing it ten minutes later. Ill let you know if they come up with an answer.

    They were still at it an hour later when I left. But it seems that this is a question that could easily be investigated experimentally. All you need is a couple of elastic bands, some weights and a ruler…
