      I’d say that having a particularly healthy diet wont improve your chances of fighting the diseases. However eating certain food can increase the damage caused to your cells by producing molecules of oxygen called reactive oxygen species which can damage proteins and DNA.

      That said, some research has been done to look at the effect of anti-oxidants. You might have seen adverts on TV for so called “superfoods”, well these may decrease the effects of these reactive oxygen molecules and help protect against cell damage. however, this reseach has only shown an effect in cells up to know, so its unlikely to have that big an effect in Humans.
